International Youth Day theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”:2025, August 12

How Lugarawa Youth Foundation Can Support Young People in Line with the 2025 Theme

The 2025 International Youth Day theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” emphasizes the power of young people to create change in their communities while contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

1. Promote Youth-Led Community Projects

  • Support youth to identify local challenges—such as unemployment, waste management, climate change, or lack of educational resources—and design solutions that address them.

  • Offer small grants, mentorship, and technical support for youth-led initiatives.

  • Celebrate and showcase successful youth projects through community events and media.

2. Strengthen Skills for Sustainable Livelihoods

  • Organize vocational and entrepreneurship training in areas such as sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly enterprises, renewable energy, and digital skills.

  • Link young entrepreneurs to markets, investors, and microfinance institutions.

  • Provide career guidance and internship opportunities.

3. Promote Climate and Environmental Action

  • Engage youth in tree planting, waste recycling, and water conservation campaigns.

  • Train young people in climate-smart farming techniques and green innovation.

  • Partner with local government and NGOs to scale up climate-related youth projects.

4. Foster Youth Participation in Decision-Making

  • Facilitate youth forums and dialogues with local leaders to ensure young voices influence community policies.

  • Build the leadership skills of youth representatives, especially young women and marginalized groups.

  • Advocate for youth inclusion in local government committees and development plans.

5. Integrate Digital Tools and Innovation

  • Provide training in digital literacy, online advocacy, and the use of social media for community mobilization.

  • Encourage youth to use technology for local problem-solving, such as mobile apps for health awareness or e-commerce for rural products.

6. Promote Partnerships for Youth Impact

  • Collaborate with schools, faith-based organizations, private sector, and international partners to co-create opportunities for youth.

  • Leverage partnerships to access funding, technical skills, and global exposure for youth initiatives.

Impact Expectation:By empowering young people to design and lead local solutions, Lugarawa Youth Foundation will contribute not only to the SDGs but also to a stronger, more resilient community—ensuring that youth are not just beneficiaries of development but active shapers of their future.
