About

Romanus Aidan Mgimba, born in 1965, is the Founder and Director of Lugarawa Youth Foundation (LYF) since its registration on 12th August 2021. He is a highly experienced healthcare professional, community leader, and youth mentor. Romanus combines more than 36 years of experience in nursing with over 20 years of leadership in youth sports and community development. His vision focuses on empowering young people, advancing healthcare, and fostering sustainable development in Tanzania.

Experience

• Nursing Career: Joined St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital, Peramiho in 1989 as a nurse after obtaining a Certificate in Nursing. Advanced with a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing (2000–2005) and an Advanced Diploma in Nursing in Operating Theatre Management.

• Served as Director of Nursing Services for 14 years, showing strong leadership, organization, communication, coordination, and participatory decision-making skills.

• Earned professional training in Leadership and Management and Conflict Management and Resolution.

• Awards and Recognition:

  • Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Leadership in Finance Management, presented by Ansgar Cup – Peramiho (20th October 2021).

  • Certificate of Recognition by Songea District Council (2023) for innovation and empowering women in economics.

  • Certificate of Participation in Clean Water Supply Project by GLOBE ENERGY (2024).

Activities Undertaken

As Founder and Director of LYF, Romanus has initiated and overseen several impactful projects, including:

• Organizing a successful foundation inauguration in 2022 at Njombe Region, Lugarawa Village (Ludewa District), with community sports events.

• Bee farming project at Peramiho Ward.

• Carpentry and workshop project at Peramiho Village.

• Mushroom farming project at Peramiho.

Contribution to the Community

• Guided the growth of youth sports for over 20 years as Treasurer and Manager, inspiring and mentoring young people.

• Advocated for women’s economic empowerment, receiving district-level recognition.

• Supported clean water supply initiatives through partnerships with international organizations.

• Promoted sustainable community livelihoods through agriculture, entrepreneurship, and vocational projects.
