Lugarawa Youth Foundation
The Lugarawa Youth Foundation has established a demonstration vegetable garden as a practical learning site where young people can gain hands-on skills in agriculture and entrepreneurship. The garden is located on land owned by the Director of the Foundation and serves as a training environment where youth can learn modern and sustainable farming practices.
Through this garden, young people from the community are learning important skills such as:
🌱 Vegetable production techniques – including land preparation, planting, spacing, and crop management.
🌿 Sustainable agriculture – learning how to produce food in environmentally friendly ways while protecting the land.
💧 Farm management and crop care – including watering, weeding, soil improvement, and pest management.
📊 Agricultural entrepreneurship – understanding how farming can become a source of income and employment for young people.
🥗 Nutrition and food security – promoting the production of healthy vegetables for families and the community.
The garden is carefully managed with the support of Mr. Angelus and his wife, who have done excellent work in preparing the land, planting crops, and maintaining the garden. Their dedication and hard work are a strong example of commitment to community development.
The Foundation also supports them economically by providing a monthly payment, which helps motivate them and contributes to their economic empowerment.
Vision for a Youth Skills Training Center
The long-term vision of this initiative is to transform this area into a Youth Skills Training Center, where young people can learn practical agricultural skills, agribusiness, and environmental conservation.
In addition to vegetables, the demonstration farm includes different crops and fruit trees such as:
🍌 Bananas🍍 Pineapples🥭 Budded mango trees🥑 Budded avocado trees🍊 Oranges🌾 Sugarcane
The farm also already has five fish ponds with fish, which provide additional learning opportunities for youth in aquaculture and integrated farming systems.
These activities show that agriculture can be a powerful tool for youth empowerment, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods.
The photos shown above represent only a small part of the valuable work taking place in this demonstration farm. The Lugarawa Youth Foundation aims to expand this initiative so that many more young people can gain practical skills, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable community development.
